19th Century Stanhope Sewing Thimble Views of Southport England

This is a fabulous and rare stanhope thimble from circa 1870-75 and made of brass or copper-bronze. It is robust and very well made. It is in wonderful condition all the way around. There are no dents and it is perfectly round. It is hallmarked on the side near the rim with what looks to be a Roman numeral "1" or a capital letter "I". The stanhope is in excellent condition and easy to see all six images of Southport England. It has a wonderful 150 year patina and a tiny bit of verdigris in one or two of the tiny decoration holes and nothing more. Stanhope thimbles are sought after by stanhope collectors and they are the apex of any thimble collection. A hard to find item especially in this condition.

It is notable that though these were made in France by Rene Dagron it is not marked "MADE IN FRANCE" making it one of his earlier stanhopes.
